OFICI 2026: Traditional Crafts Fair

Date: Friday 6 to Sunday 8 November 2026
Venue: Cardona Castle (Castell de Cardona), Cardona, Barcelona province, Catalonia, Spain

A new fair dedicated to traditional crafts makes its debut in a medieval castle in Catalonia, with exhibitions from across Europe, a programme of talks and free admission.

OFICI is a new annual fair celebrating traditional craftsmanship and its place in contemporary life. Its first edition takes place in the hilltop castle of Cardona, north-west of Barcelona, and brings together craftspeople and organisations from Catalonia and across Europe. It is promoted by the Consortium of Commerce, Crafts and Fashion of Catalonia (CCAM), with support from the Catalan Government’s Department of Culture.

Exhibitions

  • Crafted Origins: the European Crafts Alliance presents work by 15 makers from 10 European countries, exploring techniques, materials and knowledge passed down through generations, and the places and stories behind each piece.
  • Material Imagination, or the Poetics of Dirty Hands: Poland’s Creative Industries Institute (IPK) presents work by 10 Polish makers in clay, wood, glass and fibre, celebrating ancestral techniques and the beauty of imperfection.

Talks

  • Round table: The role of traditional craftsmanship in contemporary society. Saturday 7 November, 12pm–1pm. With interior designer Tomás Alía, Laura Miguel of the European Crafts Alliance and Pepa Entrena, founder of the Madrid craft shop Cocol. Chaired by David Places, Head of Crafts at the Government of Catalonia. In Spanish; free, subject to capacity.
  • Case study: More than a chest of drawers. Saturday 7 November, 4.30pm–6pm. Historian and furniture conservator Joan Güell Solà of the Associació per a l’Estudi del Moble examines a rare 18th-century Catalan Baroque piece that combines a chest of drawers with a prayer desk, alongside the original object. Free; advance registration required.

Nearby: visitors can also explore Cardona’s salt-carving tradition at the Josep Arnau Salt Museum and the underground galleries of the Cardona Salt Mountain, with discounts for OFICI visitors (use the code OFICI when booking the Salt Mountain online).
