Current Obsession has named Brazil as the focus of Munich Jewellery Week 2027, as the organisation behind the festival’s communications sets out a new, more editorial direction.
Munich Jewellery Week is the annual, independent, artist-run gathering of the contemporary jewellery world, when exhibitions, talks and events take over the city. Students and emerging, mid-career and established jewellers come from all over the world to present their work on their own terms. For 2027, Current Obsession, the magazine and curatorial platform closely involved in the festival for more than a decade, will turn its attention to Brazil.
The country’s vast scale and diversity, its spiritual traditions and ancestral knowledge have shaped rich craft cultures. Its materials range from capim dourado, the shimmering golden grass used in traditional weaving, to clay, fibre, wood and stone, each carrying traces of place, ritual and touch. Contemporary Brazilian makers continue to reshape these traditions into new forms. The guest editor, contributors, advisors and collaborators for next year’s CO Paper will be revealed in the coming months.
The Brazil focus comes as Current Obsession returns to its roots. In the early years its work centred on raising awareness of the festival, producing a printed map, street signs and a festival publication, and bringing people together through its Social Club series of talks, lectures, networking events and parties. It will now concentrate on three areas: curation, highlighting exemplary and groundbreaking work; research, bringing critical and practical perspectives together to advance the field; and community, creating space for dialogue and exchange.
Visitors can still expect the printed CO Paper and the Social Club events, alongside new curated experiences that bring a more critical lens to the festival.
Lost Weekend remains the festival’s headquarters, where visitors can pick up a copy of the paper, find a member of the team and meet fellow jewellery lovers to tour the shows with. Its street-facing shop windows will again host an exhibition of contemporary jewellery, curated with Lost Weekend Meets Art.
