A rare and wonderful opportunity! The extremely talented Luke Shimell and Emma Madden are our May MasterMakers on Friday 17 May.
What will you experience with Shimell & Madden?
During this special event Emma and Luke will bring a wealth of expert in-depth knowledge, skill, craftsmanship and passion. You’ll hear Emma and Luke talk about their individual career journeys, working as a partnership and how they defined their unique and instantly recognisable style.
You’ll see their beautiful maquettes, learn more about their processes, and how they make their pieces with such precision from drawn down wire, and you’ll handle some of their exquisite jewellery.
Following the talk Emma and Luke will show you how to make your own affordable “fold away” draw bench. They are bringing their own for you to try! And you will make your own silver twist ring from the silver wire you draw down.
You’ll learn all the things you can do with a draw bench and drawplates; it’s not only about drawing down wire. You’ll learn how to:
- • Make your own tube.
- • Make D shape wire with a round drawplate if you don’t have a D shape drawplate.
- • Draw down and work with multi tone wire.
- • Coil tube.
- • Adjust collets.
- • Treat different metals when drawing them down.
- • Never buy another jump ring again – make your own!
If that wasn’t enough, you’ll drawn down silver wire to make your own silver twist.
You’ll learn how to:
- Calculate the length of wire.
- Work out the number of twists per finger size.
- Creating loose, medium, and tight twists.
- Solder an invisible join with continuation of the twist.
This wonderful intimate 5-hour experience will round off with a relaxed chat & mingle with Emma and Luke over wine and delicious sushi from our neighbours Mugen. You’ll have the opportunity to ask even more questions and leave with insider tips and a wealth of new knowledge!

What is our MasterMaker Series?
These monthly events embody what FORGE stands for: exceptional design, the preservation of skills, and the sharing of knowledge. They are limited to 10 people for a unique & intimate, exclusive experience with a highly skilled & accomplished designer.
During 5 captivating hours, you’ll engage in a talk, witness a live demonstration, and partake in a hands-on workshop, all guided by the MasterMakers themselves. The event concludes with a relaxed chat and mingle over food & wine.
