Liane Wolf: Anodised Aluminium - Colour And Design Expression In Metal at K Academy Of Contemporary Jewellery

25 – 27 May 2019

A 3 Days Workshop led by Liane Wolf at K Academy Of Contemporary Jewellery, London

Colour And Design Expression In Metal

'Introduce colour to your jewellery designs through discovering an array of creative techniques for adding patterns, images and colour effects to pre-anodised aluminium. This unique material and process allows for colouring to become part of the metal surface as a permanent colourfast effect.

We'll explore a variety of artistic approaches, including dying, mono-printing, stamping and using resists to create patterns and images. There will be ample scope for experimenting with the learned techniques to create your own unique effects.

You will also be introduced to the characteristics of anodised aluminium. This includes an overview of how the anodic layer is produced, how to handle the metal with it’s anode layer, how to seal the surface after colouring for a colourfast finish and understanding the similarities and differences when working with aluminium compared to the ‘usual’ jewellery metals.

This course is predominantly about experimenting and sample-making, with the opportunity to complete a piece of jewellery if you so wish.

The course will cover:

  • Dying, stamping and mono printing techniques,
  • Using resists to create patterns and images,
  • Sealing the anode layer to create a colour-fast surface,
  • Cutting, filing, sanding and shaping aluminium,
  • The characteristics of aluminium for handling and making.

Who Is It For?

This course is for all levels. Beginners are welcome. Basic jewellery making skills such as piecing and filing will be an advantage.

Who Will Run The Workshop?

Liane Wolf is a designer/maker from Australia with a background in Fine Art, majoring in painting at the National Art School in Sydney, and started making jewellery while living in Copenhagen in 2000.
