It's In Our Hands - One Year On, Ethical Making Symposium
This Symposium is aimed primarily at jewellers and silversmiths, but is relevant to makers of all disciplines who have an interest in adopting an ethical approach in their practice.
Speakers
Speakers will include
- award winning British Fairtrade ethical jeweller and environmental activist, Greg Valerio MBE;
- jeweller Ute Decker;
- researcher Dr Peter Oakley;
- founder of the Precious Metals Workshop, Ian Nicholson; and
- Jane Barnett and Theodora Panayides of consultancy and social venture, Levin Sources.
Speakers will discuss the importance of implementing an ethical approach and how to face the challenges of building an ethical making practice in today’s design and making industry.
Building on the success of the last Symposium and the achievements over the past year, we will also consider what an ethical making journey looks like for different makers and what is possible to achieve looking ahead.
Ethical Making Resource
The Symposium will also include the launch of the Incorporation of Goldsmiths' Ethical Making Resource, a website for jewellers and silversmiths looking for information on ethical making and accessible ways to achieve an ethical practice.
Free to Attend
The Symposium is free to attend and includes tea and coffee on arrival and an opportunity to continue the conversation over drinks at the end of the day. There will be a lunch break during the day and delegates are asked to provide their own lunch.
The Symposium is complemented by a one-day practical workshop on March 29th.
