Recent Crafts Council Hothouse 2017 participant Fiona Rourke presents her ongoing solo project Reflect, refract, react as part of the alternative jewellery catwalk show Blinkered at Grand Entrance Hall, Brunel Museum during London Fashion Week.
About the Project
Reflect, refract, react is a project that strikes out from the static norm by subverting the function of mirrors; applying them to the body rather than using them as a way to view the body.
Mirrors are culturally synonymous with self-awareness, providing a unique virtual stage in which we play the part of the protagonist, the director and the critic.
By taking lead from childhood toys such as kaleidoscopes and periscopes, the work produced offers the opportunity to re-establish playful connections with mirrors through movement and performance.
Fiona has teamed up with photographer Nicola Davidson-Reed to create a striking set of images that convey the overarching themes of self-awareness, performance, childhood and play.
About the Show
Blinkered is the first catwalk show to be produced by the contemporary jewellery gallery @work. It marks the 20 anniversary of the independent London-born company who have continued to showcase experimental new works from national and international jewellery designers alike.
Set in the atmospheric Grand Entrance Hall of the Brunel Museum, the show boasts work from over 30 talented designers and will provide a current overview of what’s evolving in the expanding world of contemporary jewellery.
The show runs 18.00 – 21.00 on Sunday the 18 of February, tickets are available for £10 through the Blinkered Eventbright page.
