Artist statement
Light and reflection are always an important topic for my work which has very strong relationship with jewellery.
“Bl” brooches and pendants
These pieces are made using dichroic mirror, which reflects two different colours. This material is used in optical applications and architecture. I was fascinated by its unusual colour reflections and knew immediately that I wanted to make jewellery with it. It is not only about the two colours but also about the openness of perception.
„Palette“ brooches
Wearing one, you see strong, colourful shadows on the white corian base. The shape of the shadow changes depending on the light direction; where it comes from or where you are. For me the light is a living thing. It is moving everywhere, getting stronger or weaker, changing colour.
„Flare“ brooches and necklaces
These are pieces of jewellery about the sun.
It is a strong memory in my mind seeing the incredible sunrise at Atacama desert in Chile. At this moment I understood clearly why the ancients saw sun and gold as one and the same. Flare is the explosion of sun´s surface but at the same time flare means also reflection of the light, which happens inside of a camera lens.
„Ghost“ mirrors – brooches / objects
When in Thailand I was visiting many Buddhist temples and most of the temples have traditional golden decoration with small mirrors, which it refracts but makes a shape abstract.
Since early times the mirror was mysterious for a human. Therefore ancient people believed that there is another world beyond the mirror, which is invisible.
The new body of work „Ghost“ is made from two-way mirrors, made from tempered float glass, with aluminum and quartz coating.
It is placed directly on the wall mirror, which has a typical size for the bathroom that you see your face in every morning.
If you stand in front of the mirror it looks like a usual but in the next moment you realize that there is something wrong. You see your face but it has a minimal distortion there. You can’t really see what it is but if you touch it and take it off then you will find an object and it is a piece of jewellery.
