A number of silversmiths who were selected for the Contemporary British Silver programme Silver Speaks have also been selected including Hazel Thorn, Mary Ann Simmons, Angus McFadyen.
A Design Discovery: Great British Silver 1940-2016
This year’s exhibition, ‘A Design Discovery: Great British Silver 1940-2016’, is lent by the Pearson Collection and celebrates the story of design through silverware. In addition, Elements will host a number of spectacular events, including workshops and talks run in association with ‘Silver Speaks’, a programme of events by the Contemporary British Silversmiths; hallmarking and jewellery making demonstrations; a children’s craft area; and a series of sparkling evening events.
Elements Festival: Silverscape
Elements is also delighted to host a spectacular ‘Silverscape’, featuring work from some of the UK’s most talented silversmiths, including Graham Stewart, John Creed and Smith & Harris, who created the incredible solid gold sculpture of Kate Moss entitled ‘Siren’, which remains the largest solid gold sculpture ever made.
Mary Michel, Director of The Incorporation of Goldsmiths of the City of Edinburgh, said, “If you want to know the story behind the jewellery you wear: who made it, where and how, then Elements offers the perfect place to find it, with prices starting from as low as £35. Elements offers an antidote to mass produced work of uncertain origin in a fabulous setting. You can browse the work of over 48 UK makers; you can take part in makers’ workshops; enjoy our exhibition; or simply relax in the beautiful building over coffee or a cocktail at one of our evening events.”
Elements will take place at Lyon & Turnbull’s impressive auction room, 33 Broughton Place, Edinburgh from the 4th to the 6th November.
