Electroforming Jewellery at K2 Academy of Contemporary Jewellery
3 Day Course
23 Mar 2018- 25 Mar 2018
What will be taught?
In this three-day workshop, you will be introduced to the electroforming technique, to create unique jewellery pieces, small objects and samples in copper.
The course is designed to discover the potential of the technique as it allows you to create intricate, complex three-dimensional shapes. You can produce unique, hollow and lightweight pieces which cannot be done in any other technique. First you will learn about the principles of electroforming. We will then select suitable objects, from plastic ready-mades, to found treasures such as twigs, leaves or seashells. This course will also cover basics of wax carving to use as mandrels/masters for electroforming. You will be shown how to pretreat and prepare objects, combine them with different materials and to apply conductive paint to get them ready for the electroforming.
Due to the lengthy process, the electroforming will be carried out in and between the sessions. You will be able to produce 3-5 pieces or more depending on surface sizes. Once your pieces are covered with a proper metal layer, we will focus on finishing with demonstrations on oxidizing, as well as removing sprues and mandrels. You will also be shown a step by step film, and learn about handling the chemicals and maintenance of the equipment.
Who is it for?
Jewellers, artists, craft practitioners who are looking to explore new techniques and who want to get a chance to experiment with a variety of materials. No prior jewellery skills are necessary.
