Companions: Jewellery Created by Alexander Blank

Companions: Jewellery Created by Alexander Blank
25 July through 5 October 2025 | opens on Thursday, 24 July, 7 p.m.
Over the years, representations of animal heads and cartoon characters have become the trademark of Alexander Blank (*1975). His pendants, crafted from handcarved solid foam combined with silver and cork, graphite or acrylic glass, reveal that he likes to be carried away into fantasy worlds and allows himself to be inspired by his curiosity about the unknown. For Alexander Blank, creating jewellery is a way of reflecting upon people, exploring perspectives beyond the traditional – and telling stories. The pieces displayed in the »Companions« exhibition, including recently created ones, are characterized by their materials’ compelling aesthetics. Combining shapes and colours to form abstract pictures for the wearer’s body, the jewellery artist’s creations represent a visual mirror of his lifeworld. The smooth surfaces of the objects conceal the actual crafting process involved, i.e. that Alexander Blank works like a sculptor, and many of his pieces have been carved from the material.
The »Companions« exhibition was previously on view at the German Goldsmiths’ House in Hanau. In 2023, the jewellery artist also was the 10th goldsmith-in-residence in Hanau. Within the context of the presentation titled “Hand-selected by Sam Tho Duong” during ORNAMENTA 2024, some of Alexander Blank’s creations were already on display at the Jewellery Museum, piquing an interest in his broad spectrum.
The exhibition has been curated by Katja Poljanac in collaboration with Alexander Blank under the overall supervision of Friederike Zobel, the Museum’s director.
Admission € 10, reduced price € 8.50
