Class of 2017: Structural Composition & One Year On
To launch 2018, NCCD is proud to present two exhibitions showcasing work by artists who we’re tipping to be the future stars of the craft & design world in our new exhibitions Class Of 2017: Structural Composition and One Year On.
Each year our Class Of series of exhibitions highlights the work of a number of new graduates chosen from the New Designers event which takes place in London. At New Designers the finest graduating students from art and design courses from across the UK are chosen to exhibit their work, with our curatorial team selecting the very best to take part in our annual showcase.
This year Class Of 2017 has a theme of Structural Composition, celebrating work that features elements borrowed or influenced by architecture. Some of the work uses shapes or characteristics of existing buildings, while others have taken inspiration from architectural styles, such as Baroque or Brutalism.
In our other exhibition opening at the beginning of the month, One Year On is part of a prize awarded to an outstanding design enterprise in the first year of their business awarded by our partner organisation Design-Nation. This year’s winners are a design studio, Winter & Kurth. The duo creates beautifully crafted furniture by fusing traditional craft techniques and materials while using innovative design and manufacturing process to create stylish and unique products.
As the National Centre for Craft & Design, we see introducing new and emerging talent as one of our key functions. In the past, exhibitors in these shows have gone on to great things and we’re very hopeful that the same will be true with this year’s talented designer-makers too.
