Carmarthen School of Art Virtual Graduate Show 2020
Carmarthen School of Art Graduate Show
Friday 26 June 2020 - all summer
Carmarthen School of Art @ Coleg Sir Gar create the UK’s largest bespoke and hand built Virtual Reality (VR) gallery to showcase student art and design work
Despite the unprecedented challenges of a global pandemic, staff at Carmarthen School of Art in Wales have created a virtual showcase to celebrate the achievements, creativity and innovation of final year students from all of their Art & Design courses. Students have had a real challenge on their hands to adapt to what has been an unexpected end to their courses but their efforts have been exceptional.
Head of Carmarthen School of Art, Paula Phillips Davies said “
We have tapped into the expertise of our staff in the 3D Design & Virtual Reality, Concept Art & Illustration and Photography degree courses to build a virtual gallery. As a result, we will be able to show the incredible work that our students have created. This online gallery has provided a fabulous opportunity to be even more ambitious than ever; it will be the first time we will be able to showcase the work of all of our degrees and further education courses at the same time ‘under one roof’. In addition to this we have also invited our colleagues from the Art & Design courses in Coleg Ceredigion to show their students work with us in what will become the largest exhibition of its kind.”
The art school is particularly well known for its personalised approach to teaching, learning and student support. Small class sizes ensure that learners flourish and develop skills of professionalism and resilience.
Textiles degree student Imogen Mills said “
There was a sense of loss, from the abrupt end...but born of the grief was the chance to reconvene. Quiet, stillness and time created resilience and invention. The sense of community was not lost in these locked away days, daily driving us forward. This is our show. The culmination of extraordinary tenacity and the abundant adaptability of artists.”
Visitors can expect to see work from a full range of disciplines including ceramics and jewellery, digital illustration, fashion, painting, drawing and printmaking, graphics, photography, sculpture, textiles, mixed media, animation, video and multi-disciplinary work. All available from the comfort of your own homes.
