What will be taught?

This course is designed to give you an introduction into wax carving and sand casting. You will learn the basics of both techniques with the possibility to design and make rings, earrings and pendants. You will be taught to create simple shapes in wax which are suitable as masters for the sand casting process and which can be used as masters to create a metal copy. The first part of the course will cover the basic principles and processes of wax carving. You will also be introduced to some experimental techniques within working with wax. The second part of the course will cover the principles and techniques of sand casting. You will again, be encouraged to an experimental approach and manipulate your mould to create unique metal copies in order to achieve a variety of different results.

Who is it for?

Mixed level - from beginners with no prior skills in jewellery making to intermediate and advanced students who want to broaden their skills.

Who will teach the course?

This course will be led by Katrin Spranger and Kelvin Birk, founders and directors of K2 academy of contemporary jewellery. Two highly creative and experienced jewellery practitioners who have been teaching jewellery design and jewellery making at several colleges in Britain and around the world.
