Troll Bridge Public Art Commission
The Council is calling for artists to submit applications to design and sculpt a replacement troll for the Riverside Walk Troll Bridge in Andover.
Now nearly 20 years old, the current troll is rotting and wearing away. The commission asks artists to engage with the community to gather inspiration from local people by hosting workshops at a local school and at one of the Four Fun Friday events in August.
Applications are invited from artists who are experienced in creating small scale artworks for the public realm, ideally working with carved oak or similar appropriate material.
The full brief is available on the Council’s website and applications are required by Friday, 30 June 2017.
Selection Procedure and Criteria
Your application should be submitted by midday on Friday 30th June 2017 to include:
- A brief proposal outlining your approach to the commission and initial responses to the brief. Max 1 A4 pages (1 side)
- A current CV with Artist’s statement (no more than 1 A4 pages (2 sides)
- 4 examples of previous relevant projects, including images Max 1 A4 pages(2 sides)
- Your full contact details and web or blog address
- Budget breakdown
Artists must demonstrate the following in their application:
- A track record in commissions for the public realm
- Experience of community engagement within public art projects
- Evidence of the ability to produce high quality works of art
- A clear understanding of the challenges and sensitivities of the project
- How there work will support the TVBC Public Art Strategy
Timeline
Installation should be planned for September 2017.
Budget
Applicants should supply a quote for the artwork that outlines all costs. This should include time for workshops, planning and design, materials, fabrication and installation for example.
