Milton Keynes Council and Gallagher Estates are looking to appoint an artist/creative practice to develop a proposal for a significant public realm commission, which explores and celebrates the heritage and future of the Western Expansion Area (WEA) – the largest development site in Milton Keynes.

We are looking for an artist/creative practice with an excellent track record of working within the public realm and whose practice is directly engaged with place making.

It is envisaged that the commission will address two intrinsically linked strands of place making which include:

  • ‘way finding’ - the scheme should encourage an exploration and navigation of the site and will need to sit alongside the build programme.
  • ‘our place – trails and journeys’ - the proposal should explore and scope out the potential for a series of trails and journeys which engage neighbouring and emerging communities.

Budget
A budget of £10,000 has been ring fenced to develop and deliver a stage one commission proposal - this sum includes all fees (including travel, accommodation and subsistence) and any delivery costs.

Timescale
We anticipate appointing the successful candidate by December 2016, with a start date in January 2017 and a completion date of May 2017.

Submitting a Proposal
Artists/creative practices interested in this opportunity must first register as a supplier via the Milton Keynes Council procurement portal In-tend. This is a simple and quick process, and once completed will enable you to access the tender opportunity and upload your application. The reference number for this commission is QU0871.

Deadline
5th December 2016
