Goldsmiths’ Company Assay Office launches Mark Your Mark Kid’s Competition to celebrate The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee

Kids across the UK are being encouraged to get crafty over the Platinum Jubilee weekend by creating their own maker’s mark, as part of the Jubilee celebrations. The Make Your Mark Kid’s Competition, launched by the Goldsmiths’ Company Assay Office (London Assay Office), is open to anyone aged 10 and under.

To introduce the world of hallmarking to a new generation, the London Assay Office has created a fun and educational activity pack about hallmarking. The activity pack, available online, includes information about the special commemorative Platinum Jubilee mark, designed by Fattorini Ltd and voted for by members of the NAJ, from a selection of British Hallmarking Council approved designs.

Will Evans, General Manager of the London Assay Office, said:

“We wanted to introduce the world of hallmarking to a new generation in a fun and creative way. What better time to do that than during The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, in a year when all the UK Assay Offices are applying the unique Platinum Jubilee hallmark, designed by Fattorini Ltd. We’re encouraging kids to get crafty this coming Jubilee weekend and submit their own Sponsor’s / Maker’s mark designs for a chance to win a personalised rubber stamp featuring their mark, the Leopards head (town mark for London) and, of course, the one-off Platinum Jubilee mark.”

While the competition is open to UK residents aged 10 and under, children of all ages are encouraged to sharpen their pencils, unleash their creativity, and share the mark on with @thegoldsmithscompany and @theassayoffice on Instagram, tagging posts with #LAOMakeYourMark.

Up to five winners are in with a chance to have their maker’s mark turned into a personalised rubber stamp featuring their mark, the Leopards head (town mark for London) and, of course, the one-off Platinum Jubilee mark.

The London Assay Office created the special Platinum Jubilee mark punches and laser mark, now being voluntarily applied to pieces submitted by customers of the four UK Assay Offices – London, Birmingham, Edinburgh and Sheffield. 30,000 pieces have had the Platinum Jubilee mark applied to them by the London Assay office alone.
