Call for Applictions: In:Site Festival

In:Site Festival is open to new craft and design graduates.

Opportunity for BA Graduates and MA Postgraduates

Craftspace returns to Birmingham Cathedral Square for the eighth year with In:Site, a festival of site-specific and co-created work created by recent graduates.

In:Site provides an opportunity for selected applied arts graduates to create temporary, bespoke public artworks.

Working outdoors within the Cathedral grounds, each graduate has a day to make their creative intervention on-site, turning the making process into a performance. The daily making performances, sometimes participatory, are intended to gradually fill the square with installations.

Past commissions have included casting jewellery from cracks in paving slabs and contemporary lace pieces on trees inspired by tracking people’s movement around the park. Participatory activities invite the public to socially interact, converse with each other and engage with the process of making.

What’s involved?

  • Festival runs 3rd-7th September 2018
  • £150 commission award plus materials
  • Travel expenses paid
  • Up to 15 commission opportunities
  • Open to 2018 undergraduates and 2017 post graduates
  • Selection panel of industry professionals
  • Work made will be on show for the duration of the festival
  • Elements of the artwork can be prepared in advance of the festival but artists must produce the majority of the artwork on-site over the course of a day.
  • Deadline for proposals submission: Sunday 15th July 2018
