The Victoria & Albert Museum is inviting applications for a residency responding to the V&A’s Rosalinde and Arthur Gilbert Collection.

Intricate craft and a sense of wonder characterize many of the works collected by Sir Arthur Gilbert and his first wife Rosalinde during the second half of the twentieth century. This is particularly true for those masterpieces that play with the idea of the minuscule: from small gold boxes to painted enamel miniatures, from the ornamental details of silver to micromosaics.

About the Residency
The V&A is looking for residency proposals that draw on this fascination with virtuoso artistry on a small scale, and the effect it has on viewers. Applicants can be UK-based designers or makers working in a variety of disciplines, including but not limited to all materials and techniques represented in the collection.

Bursary
The Museum will provide a studio at the V&A South Kensington, a bursary of £8,000 (taxable) and an additional £5,000 budget for production and materials needed for any public facing activities.

A team drawn from the Museum’s staff will provide support throughout the project.

Dates
The residency will take place between April 2017 and October 2017 and is only open to UK-based practitioners.

Closing date for applications: 7 November 2016

Interviews with short-listed artists: 5 December 2016
