Call for Applications: Getting Started Online

Applications are now open for Getting Started Online, the one-week free introduction to business course.

Delivered through live webinars from 20th until 24th March 2023, Getting Started Online helps up to 100 creative start-ups to get their businesses in the jewellery and silversmithing industry off the ground. The course enables participants to learn business essentials from industry experts, network with their peers and others in the industry, and exhibit their work.

Getting Started Online consists of five industry-specific themed days covering how to start and run a creative business, product development, raising a business profile, branding and selling work and developing sales channels. Successful applicants are supported to get a head start in their career and are given the follow-up opportunity to apply for Getting Started Spotlighting. This free initiative enables them to take part in a physical exhibition, receive further training and build their profile through promotion on the Goldsmiths’ Centre’s Instagram account @gsmithscentre, reaching over 20k followers.

A Getting Started Online alumnus explains: “The information in the Getting Started Online course has been invaluable – real insider stuff that no one else tells you, pulling together the business and marketing skills you need to make a jewellery business viable.”

Chris Oliver, Head of Professional Training at the Goldsmiths’ Centre says: “Getting Started Online is the steppingstone for many creative start-ups towards a successful career. The course offers invaluable insider-knowledge from industry experts. We’re extremely proud to see our alumni progress in their careers and put their new business skills into action.”

The Goldsmiths’ Centre is seeking applicants from a variety of training and learning routes. Applicants must be resident in the UK and can apply if they are starting, or aspire to start, or have recently started their own business, or self-employment in the jewellery industry, whether as a designer, designer maker or other skilled craftsperson. They must also have completed an accredited Precious Metal course, an accredited course in a related craft discipline, or a jewellery or silversmithing industry apprenticeship in the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.

Applications for Getting Started 2023 Online close on Sunday 22 January 2023. For more information about the course, application guidelines and to apply, visit
