Handmade Oxford – The International Contemporary Arts Festival

Just a stone’s throw away from Oxford, Waterperry Gardens is home to eight acres of beautifully landscaped ornamental gardens and is very well known for having hosted Art in Action for 40 years. In 1977, 51 artists and musicians took part in the first Art in Action and 14,000 visitors arrived. In 2016, Art in Action welcomed approximately 28,000 people over four days. Visitors came to learn, buy and enjoy the exhibitions, classes and performances.

This collaboration with the Ashmolean will not only bring our respective audiences together and give festival-goers the opportunity to taste their delicious dry gin, but it will include a VIP press launch and carefully-curated exhibition inside the museum in the lead up to the festival.

Handmade Oxford will offer visitors the chance to meet, commission and shop directly from artisans, while enjoying a day out in the beautiful surroundings of Waterperry Gardens. There will be workshops, demonstrations, live performances and more.

Emerging Talents

Following the success of their events in Kew, Edinburgh and Chelsea, Handmade in Britain is excited to present Handmade Oxford 2019 – The International Contemporary Arts Festival in June 2019. Presented in partnership with Waterperry Gardens and the Ashmolean Museum, the four-day festival will take place from 27 – 30 June 2019. ARTS THREAD is seeking Emerging Talents to take part in the event.

We are looking for: fine art / contemporary craft / furniture / product design / sculpture / interior & lifestyle products / accessories / prints / photography /

Building on the legacy of Art in Action, which successfully ran for 40 years (1977 – 2016), Handmade Oxford will be held in a series of purpose-built marquees situated in front of Waterperry House. The four-day festival will bring together some of the most exciting makers from all over the world, featuring contemporary craft and design, sculpture, interiors and lifestyle, print and photography, artisan food, workshops and demonstrations.

Following ARTS THREAD’s success for 5 years with Handmade in Britain promoting ARTS THREAD Emerging Talents at show at Chelsea, Kew, Edinburgh & Oxford, we are working with Handmade in Britain to create a curated space within the show for recent graduates (2018/17/16) and designer makers who have set up their business for less than 12 months, to be called ARTS THREAD EMERGING TALENTS.
