IJL this week announced the launch of the highly regarded exhibitor Editors’ Choice Awards for 2017. In this ninth year, the competition has been extended to include an exciting new format, together with new categories, to reflect the breadth of innovative and commercial talent across all sectors of the show.

Four awards will be judged pre-show with the winners revealed in June, followed by a further four new categories judged during IJL by an extended panel of industry media editors.

The pre-show Editors’ Choice competition is now open for entries, with IJL exhibitors able to nominate their pieces and collections for any of the four categories. Judging will take place in May by Claire Adler, the  luxury communications consultant and Financial Times contributor, and Event Director, Sam Willoughby.

“Always a high point of the event, these very competitive Awards carry considerable kudos with both exhibitors and visitors alike. The new format and categories at the show give every level of exhibitor an even greater chance to shine, both before and during IJL – from new to returning brands, from young to established designers. The benefits of winning are considerable, attracting valuable recognition within the industry, as well as great PR. And what is particularly gratifying is that so many of the winners go on to receive yet more accolades within the sector.” explained Sam Willoughby.

The Editors’ Choice Award categories are:

Technical Trailblazer
Awarded to the brand or designer that showcases exceptional craftsmanship with technical finesse and a sound appreciation of both traditional and contemporary making skills. To be judged in association with the British Academy of Jewellery, entrants must show a sound grasp of the techniques used in their designs, whether using CAD technologies, 3D printing, traditional bench skills or an innovative use of materials. In addition, there will be two guest judges for this category - Sofie Boons, Head of Teaching and Learning, British Academy of Jewellery and Jack Meyer, Senior CAD Tutor, British Academy of Jewellery.

Trend Vision
Viewed in conjunction with the IJL Trend Catwalk, the Trend Vision Award will be presented to the brand or designer that captures the most cutting-edge colours, textures, shapes and motifs in a forward-thinking new jewellery collection that showcases attention to SS18 trends.

Creative Originality
To be awarded to the brand or designer that impresses the judges with genuine originality, whether in terms of design, an innovative use of materials or striking colour combinations.

Commercial Mastermind
To be awarded to the jewellery collection destined to smash commercial targets and secure mass appeal among consumers, showcasing the careful planning and execution required to launch a commercially successful range.

Designer to Watch
This Award will be presented to the designer who best showcases flair, creativity and commercial potential.

Show Stopper
To be awarded to a single piece of impressive jewellery guaranteed to command media attention.

Visual Excellence
Visual merchandising is crucial on the shop floor, online and at trade events. The Visual Excellence Award will highlight the best stand of IJL 2017, as voted for by our judges.

IJL Exhibitor of the Year
Undoubtedly the most coveted of all the Editors’ Choice Awards, the IJL Exhibitor of the Year accolade will be presented to the brand, designer or business that showcases flair, creativity, innovation and commercial vision – the whole package!

Deadline for Applications
Applications close for entries 12 May 2017.
