Call for Applications: Artist in Residence at the Glasgow School of Art
Silversmithing and Jewellery Department

BA (Hons) Silversmithing and Jewellery Design at the Glasgow School of Art is pleased to announce its Artist in Residence(AIR) programme and invites interested individuals to apply directly to Anna Gordon, Head of Department.

The residency position is in essence, space and facilities in exchange for a small teaching assistant input.  You would be given access to bench space and facilities within the School’s workshops for the duration of the residency, for which there would be no charge.

The position should be viewed as an opportunity for you to develop your own work and technical skills in a creative environment, without the constraints of set course work or timetable. It would also allow you to positively extend your CV.

Timing

  • Workshop access is between 9.30am - 9:00pm, Monday - Thursday and until 5.00pm on a Friday
  • Session dates run from the middle of September to the beginning of June (confirmed dates will be supplied)
  • Artists in Residence would normally be expected to attend for a minimum of three days per week, for the full session
  • The residency will normally terminate at the end of session, unless by special arrangement with Head of Department

Application

If you would like to be considered for a place as Artist in Residence, please submit;

  • A CV with images (no more than 10) of current work
  • A short statement stating your academic strengths and how you would intend to develop your work during the residency
  • Please provide 2 references (or details of referees we can contact to obtain a reference)

If successful, you will also be asked to supply an academic Reference of Support and if applicable, evidence of a valid visa. Overseas applicants are responsible for ensuring they have an independent visa in place to cover the academic year. The School cannot enter into any dialogue with the UK Border Agency in respect of visa applications. The Residency position is termed as ‘work experience’.
