Internationally renowned silversmith Wayne Meeten picked up another gong at the #JewelleryOscars, the Goldsmiths’ Craft and Design Awards, this month.

Meeten’s piece, ‘Spirit of Energy’ took Gold in the three dimensional finished piece category.

The work was a commission made for a client “who was having a house built in the West Country, in Devon by the Estuary. It was designed to be placed under their new glass staircase.” The silversmith said.

The  client’s design brief was to design a centre piece with the wonders of the sun as its reference. My client chose their building plot, what will eventually become their home, for the view of the sunset and the fact that the pplot’s position was south facing......and with sea views. The result is ‘Spirit of Energy’ - my take on the natural wonder and beauty that we somehow take for granted.” Said Meeten

The Goldsmiths Craft and Design Awards this year saw some 900 entrants and 45 winners.

Wayne Meeten’s winning piece, a fruit bowl “has the hidden qualities that we all remember and cherish in our psyche, we love and cherish these moments of time in our memories from these natural wonders that are never the same but we can remember their essence.” Said the accomplished silversmith.

“The healing energy from the sun. The natural phenomenon that occur each moment in time from anywhere in the world, every civilisation are captivated by its presence.

Sunset, Sunrise, Sunrays, and Aurora Borellis. The Dance in the Night Sky had to be included as I had just returned from Iceland on a field trip. And my client also wanted to make the trip, so this was a subtle push.”
