For this year’s North Yorkshire Open Studios, Gallery Beyond in the village of Nunnington near Helmsley in North Yorkshire is hosting naturalist and artist Jonathan Pomroy, artisan jeweller Louise Dwyer and artist blacksmith Matthew Dwyer.

Three artists will come together to celebrate the beautiful swift bird in an exhibition of painting, drawing, jewellery making and blacksmithing.

Jonathan Pomroy explains:

"By the time North Yorkshire Open Studios is in full swing, Swifts will have arrived in good numbers in Nunnington and other local villages. Matthew, Louise and I decided it would be interesting to produce work based on the dynamic shape of these exciting summer migrants.

Our project links the art world with a love of nature: We also wanted an opportunity to highlight the decline of this beautiful bird and the ongoing need to protect the environment. Swifts transcend man made borders, linking us with Africa and other countries on their migration route."

Louise will be producing Swift inspired jewellery at Open Studios, Matthew will be creating a Swift Weathervane and Jonathan will sketch and paint the birds.

During the exhibition there will also be a wide range of work by all three artists on display at Gallery Beyond and both Louise and Matthew also create work to commission.

Jonathan Pomroy will also be leading short walks at 11am on Sunday 4th and Sunday 11th June. Visitors will be able to learn about Swifts and other birds in Nunnington, as well as seeing the three artists at work.
