Jeremy France Jewellers are on a winning streak, scooping yet another award for ‘Winchester’s Favourite Independent 2016’. Having recently won the award for ‘Independent Business of the Year 2016’ at the Winchester Business awards, the team were keen to maintain their title as Winchester’s favourite, especially as the award was dependent on votes made by the general public.

Annually, July marks the month of Winchester’s ‘Festival of Independents’, which is organised by the Winchester Business Improvement District (BID) as part of their ongoing project to support and celebrate all things independent in the city. Throughout the month, shoppers cast their votes online or at the many ballot boxes situated all over the city. A staggering 700 votes were counted in order to determine the winners of such a title.

Jeremy France Jewellers were informed that they were in the top 3 for the retail category earlier in August, and have since been on tenterhooks awaiting the final result! Shortlisted alongside Parklife Kids shoe retailer and Kingsgate Wine and Provisions, it was unclear to Jeremy whether he and his team would come out on top with such stiff competition. The other two categories were for ‘Food & Drink’ and ‘Services’, with some very renowned local cafes, restaurants and luxury hair salons also in with a chance of claiming the highly sought after titles.

The triumphant winners of each category were announced at a VIP cocktail evening at Winchester’s classy Hotel Du Vin on Thursday 25th August. Jeremy, his fiancée Jennifer Greaves, and his daughter Harriet attended the glamorous affair with all fingers crossed for a successful result. Independent chocolatiers Chococo took home the award for the Food & Drink category, and The Independent Holiday Shop won the Services award.

Jeremy France said, “It is an absolute privilege to have been titled as the people’s favourite independent retailer in Winchester. In the beginning, over 25 years ago, it was just me at the bench with one sales assistant, and now I have a thriving company with 30 members of staff and a three-story luxury showroom. We would not be here if it weren’t for the loyal support of our customers, and it is thanks to them that we can receive this inspiring award; a very proud moment for me, the France family, and my fantastic team”.
