Rod’s design, The Four Nations Platinum Vase, will be made in silver and incorporate four sides of low-relief chasing, with each side dedicated to the flowers of the Four Nations that make up the United Kingdom. The vase will make a prominent feature of the Edinburgh Hallmark and the celebratory Platinum Jubilee mark, which is being applied during 2022 by all UK Assay Offices to celebrate the Queens Platinum Jubilee.

Rod Kelly is one of the UK’s leading silversmiths, specialising in low relief chasing, often inlaying the chased details in fine gold. His images are derived from his interest in the beautiful countryside that surrounded him in Norfolk and inspired by his many trips to the Shetland Islands where he now lives and has worked for the past 14 years. His designs are based upon drawn sketches; the lines translated into shapes and patterns often found chased in low relief on his specially commissioned pieces.

Tom Murray, Deacon of The Incorporation of Goldsmiths of the City of Edinburgh, said, ‘We are thrilled to add this design by Rod Kelly to the collection of The Incorporation of Goldsmiths.  From his workshop in Shetland, Rod will create a spectacular piece that will honour the many years of service by Her Majesty The Queen across the Four Nations.’
