Last week, the Designer of the Year, Fei Liu, unveiled his latest masterpiece ‘The Blue of Dreams’ in Shenzhen City, China, to press and the Chinese jewellery industry.

‘The Blue of Dreams’ tiara is a collaboration between Fei and the Chinese beauty pageant.

Fei sought inspiration from the flying fairy murals of Dunhuang, China. A city which symbolises the beginning of the Silk Road.

The marvellous main sapphire stone has a weight of 88ct and is worth approximately £3million. The entwined ribbons of platinum are set with hues of sapphire and rose-cut diamonds, to give the tiara life and dimension. Amongst the sea of faceted stones is a band of cultured pearls.

With this piece, Fei looks to marry the different cultures and art, by combining the traditional craftsmanship skills and the inspiration of the Silk Road. ‘The Blue of Dreams’ is a modern representation of East meets West and is set to be completed and exhibited in Beijing in July.
