Cooksongold, the UK largest jewellery making supplier and supplier of precious metals, picked up the award for Excellence in Science and Technology at the Birmingham Post Business Awards 2016 for its Direct Precious Metal 3D Printing technology.

The awards, which aim to celebrate success, recognise achievement and highlight the innovative people and companies within Birmingham, took place at the ICC Birmingham.

The award is a recognition of Cooksongolds pioneering work to drive the jewellery industry forward.

Discussing the award win, Richard Oldroyd, Managing Director, said: “The Cooksongold team have worked extremely hard to bring the Precious M 080 technology to a commercial standard and will continue their work providing the jewellery and watchmaking industries with a new production process that will enable the creation of designs that were simply not possible until now. We would like to thank the organisers for a wonderful evening which showed why Birmingham is really is a great city to work within. Cooksongold will continue its support for science and technology within the jewellery industry by providing its high quality service, supplying the tools and materials needed to create beautiful and innovative jewellery”.

The Direct Precious Metal 3D Printing system, the Precious M 080, which was purpose built for precious metal production, utilises the power of 3D CAD design. It enables the creation of intricate 3D designs which would be impossible or too time consuming to make using traditional manufacturing methods to be manufactured within just a few hours which are easily customisable.

It produces high quality precious metal designs layer by layer, melting fine metal powder with a laser. This process is also known as direct metal laser sintering (DMLS).
