Last Sunday’s 90th annual Academy Awards - more commonly known as the Oscars - are arguably the most prestigious awards and red carpet event of the year for the film and entertainment industry.

This year was no exception with actresses waiving the black only dress code seen at previous award ceremonies this year, to make the most of the most prestigious event of the Awards year.

It is estimated that the total value of watches and jewellery adorned on the famed Oscars red carpet this year was some $30 million [£21M].

High jewellery houses took advantage of the showcase, Chopard adorned the most stars on the red carpet while De Beers Forevermark and Harry Winston were also high up on A-Lister’s wardrobe attire.

This year rubellites, sapphires, emeralds and aquamarines stole the coloured show, whilst understated bling came from an array of chandelier diamond only earrings.

Vintage jewels were also selected for the outing with Art Deco playing a major part in the style stakes with high end pieces from the 1930s featuring heavily in the choice of jewellery for the event.
