Funding Available to Set Up Temporary Projects in Empty Shops, Arts Council

Arts Council England (ACE) and the Department for Communities and Local Government (DCLG) are partners in a £500k fund to support temporary activities taking place in empty shop spaces within 57 councils across the UK.

Artists can apply to the Art in Empty Spaces fund through ACE's Grants for the Arts Programme, but priority will be given to activities beginning within three months of a grant being awarded, and to those who have received partnership funding from one the 57 DCLG selected local authority areas. Within London, only projects in Hackney are eligible.

Artquest's Empty shops article has more information on this fund, as well as useful strategies in approaching landlords to persuade them of the benefits of working with artists, as well as information about other project across the country.
