Designer/Artist/Carpenter to construct dining table
Artist/ Designer / Carpenter wanted to design and construct a dining table and chairs for a public art commission in Walthamstow Marshes. The dining table will be a space where people can sit, eat their food and meet others. It will be a catalyst for creativity and play to encourage people of all ages to explore the area in new and imaginative ways. The table should:• Seat between twelve and twenty people • Be robust and resilient to vandalism and weather • Make allowance for a potential increase of litter to the area. You should therefore be prepared to build adequate bins for rubbish and recycling • Be site specific and considerate of both Walthamstow Marshes and the people who go there This is an opportunity for an artist to work in a well-loved public space in London. It is a chance to create a dining table that is inspiring and enchanting, which will be used by many people in the local community. The deadline for the design and construction of the table is the middle of May. Applicants should also be willing to attend two meetings with local residents and users of the park, which will be a chance for people to give feedback on the project and the design of the table. The project will open in June and the table will be onsite for up to two years. To celebrate the opening of the project there will be a community feast and following this will be other events over the month. There is a fee of £800 for the design and construction of the table and chairs and a further £500 for materials costs. Applicants should reply by the 5th April to Alex Parry at:[e] parry.alexandra@gmail.com, sending a proposal of your design and how you would make the table and chairs, some examples of your previous work and a CV. There will be informal interviews later that week. Please email me if you have any questions.
