Art Commission: Orford Park Hoardings Project, Warrington Borough Council

Warrington Borough Council would like to commission two artist(s) for the Orford Park project. As part of the Council's public art strategy, A Strategy for Public Art Development 2010, the Council is developing a pre-qualified list of regionally based practitioners interested in developing their practice in the public realm. This initial project will pilot the development of a community toolkit for public art commissioning. The project celebrates the regeneration of Orford Park and provides considerable scope to embed creative and cultural activity into the long-term regeneration of the area. Selected artists will work with a lead artist to positively engage local people, in creating ideas for a temporary hoardings project for the Orford Park Project.

Project activities will be planned and delivered in order to address the following:

• the need for intergenerational contact • the desire to develop people's ambitions for the future • the desire for coherency across the park • the desire to bring people into the park • the desire to improve health and accessibility to the park.

Submission requirements:

• A letter of interest outlining your approach to creatively engaging local people in the future of Orford Park • CD containing no more than 10 images of previous work • Confirmation of availability.

Applications will be assessed on the following criteria: 

• Commitment to the Orford Park Project • Commitment to developing professional practice and to working with a lead artist • Quality of thought and development of creative ideas • Experience and context of previous work • Level of artistic skill / Hons Degree • Experience of working with young people and the community • Up to dateCriminal Records Bureau Disclosure • Based in the North West • Availability.

Artist Fee:  £2,000.

Application deadline Monday 29th March 2010 Site visit and interview Wednesday 7th April.
