Wax Carving and Casting Masterclass:

Combining your knowledge of jewellery manufacture and production, you will be guided through the skills required when carving master waxes for prototyping and moulding for casting quickly and accurately. 

This is an intensive course with a maximum of four students in the group and will be the last wax carving 

and casting course running this year. It is suitable for beginners.

 

Setting Unit 1:

This course follows an intensive delivery structure focusing on developing setting skills.  Therefore, students are placed on the course at an appropriate level in accordance to previous experience.  Setting Unit 1 is the foundation unit for the settings, covering all of the basic theory work. By the end of this unit, you will have a firm grasp of the theory of stone setting that can be applied to any situation, a completed rub over setting and a claw setting.

 

Stringing Diploma:

Stringing is all about learning how to incorporate different styles and designs into your beading work; learning about knotting and separating the beads from each other. You will be working with fresh water pearls on this course. 

 

Advanced Silver Jewellery Diploma:

This course is ideal for those who want to further their knowledge and skills in silver jewellery making. Whilst doing a more challenging project, you will receive professional guidance and also learn how to incorporate basic mounts and settings to expand the array of making possibilities.

 

Silver Jewellery Making Certificate: 

Dates:  31st Aug – 19th Oct 2010 (Tue) 6.30pm – 9pm

This course focuses on the techniques required in making silver jewellery such as marking and cutting metals, soldering, polishing and finishing. These techniques will be developed through a set project and at the end of the course you will have a piece of jewellery that you can keep.

 

Setting Unit 3: 

Dates:  31st Aug – 5th Oct 2010 (Tue) 2pm – 6pm

This advanced setting unit develops your Pave setting, which are amongst the most popular choice of settings in traditional and contemporary jewellery. The setting styles you will learn are Cut down and Micro –Pave which can greatly enhance the beauty and value of your work; as well as V-Claw, Roman and Channel setting.

 

Jewellery Design Certificate: 

Dates:  1st Sept – 23rd Sept 2010 (Wed & Thurs) 10am – 2pm

On this course you will learn how to formulate ideas and designs and how to translate them onto paper using various drawing styles and techniques. With preliminary drawing and painting techniques, you will be able to relate them to manufacturing processes and learn how to present your work for different purposes

 

Diamond Grading Certificate: 

Dates:  8th Sept – 13th Oct 2010 (Wed) 6.30pm – 8.30pm

A practical course where you will be looking at real diamonds to develop your knowledge on grading identification, colour and clarity qualities. You will also learn about the difference between simulants and synthetics and diamond treatments.
